Since its start in 1885, Johnson Controls has grown into a global leader in power solutions, automotive experience and building efficiency. The company offers products, equipment and facility services that optimize energy use and improve comfort and security in buildings. Johnson Controls also provides batteries for automobiles and hybrid electric vehicles and manufactures innovative automotive interiors that help make driving more comfortable, safe and enjoyable.

Johnson Controls enjoyed a variety of successes in 2007. Sales increased to $34.5 billion and the company achieved its 61st consecutive year of sales increases, its 17th year of earnings increases and its 32nd successive year of dividend increases. Also in 2007, the company expanded global community initiatives. Its leadership position in environmental awareness resulted in Johnson Controls being recognized as a leading global participant in this important emerging industry.

Johnson Controls entered the renewable energy business in 2007 and now offers its customers on site, renewable energy services including those for solar, biomass, wind, landfill gas, geothermal and combined heat & power projects. The company firmly believes the marketplace is ready to

commit to renewable energy and the investment Johnson Controls is now making will position the company to take advantage of the significant growth that the industry is experiencing. Johnson Controls has already implemented several renewable projects for its customers. Below is a sample of the technologies that have been installed and a brief description of each project:

Geothermal: Utah Department of Corrections. This heating plant project includes an on site geothermal well that provides building heat for prison cell blocks, a furniture manufacturing shop and a dormitory. It also heats water for use in showers, the kitchen and laundry systems. The waste water is piped to a neighboring tropical fish farm and a nearby wetland.

Wind Turbines: Erie Community Unit School District. Johnson Controls is using wind energy generation to decrease the school district’s purchased electrical energy consumption by 87 percent representing an expected $5.5 million in total energy savings over 30 years. A 1.2 MW wind turbine and tubular wind tower, along with an electrical distribution system, will provide energy to the elementary, middle and high schools.
